Development of the Central River embankment, water-front landscape, and wetland park in Jinwan District is 70 percent finished and due to open in October.
The second landscaping project in Aviation New Town in line with the pursuit to become a "Sponge City," the first was Jinshan Park, which opened last year, according to the Jinwan Housing & Urban-Rural Development Bureau.
Costing 110 million yuan ($16.5 million), the latest project covers 130,000 sq m.
The 2,300-m east-west embankment will also serve as a frontier for flood control. The west section starts at Shuanghu Road, running nearly 1,380 m to end at Central Lake. The lake is also the starting point for the 1,000-m east section extending almost to the Exhibition Hall of Urban Planning.

One of the highlights, according to a project head, lies in reserved water purification methods. The system, through a clever use of plants, animals, and microbial ecosystems, can purify the river and rainwater to be high-standard, transparent, and clear before sending it to Central Lake.
The intent is also to decontaminate the surrounding six centers that are to be built, an executive said. They will be public cultural, civic, and industrial services, civic art, international business, sports, and youth-women-children's activity centers, costing 8.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion). Some will be constructed in the water.
