The city of Zhuhai's investment this year of 4.3 billion yuan ($641 million) in 121 infrastructure and public service projects in Western Eco-New Towns is bearing fruition in Jinwan and Doumen districts.

Jinwan

The Jinwan section accounts for about one-third of the 19.8-sq-km initial areas in the Western Eco-New Area to undergo initial development. Experts such as Liu Thai Ker, hailed as Singapore's Father of Urban Planning, have been conferred regarding the technical review of regulatory urban planning.

The key Aviation New Town will be developed under a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) mode to realize sustainable development of a modern city. Plans call for mixed-use living, retail, office, and public spaces within a radius of 500 m in a compact use of urban land.

The soft foundation of the first large commercial complex in Jinwan-- Huafa Boutique Mall – is nearly completed. The place is to open by 2020.

Besides the industrial projects, Aviation New Town will have public cultural, civic and industrial services, civic art, international business, sports, and youth-women-children's activity centers. Costing 8.2 billion yuan ($1.2 billion), the six centers will have a floor area of 760,000 sq m and improve urban function while polishing its international image.

Doumen

Huxin, Baijiao, Baiteng, South Jianfeng, and Xinqing in Doumen New Town will become a new urban area featuring favorable eco-environment, convenient lifestyle, improved support industries, and picturesque cityscape by 2021.

In line with work deployment of the municipal Party committee and government, 13.7 billion yuan ($2 billion) is allocated toward 46 projects of municipal infrastructure, public service facilities, industry-city integration, low-carbon eco-city development, and Sponge City construction.

Pingsha New Town

Centering on Ocean Spring Resort, Pingsha New Town will utilize advantages in geology, environment, and land resources to become a regional cluster of the modern service sector. A modern coastal town integrating leisure tourism, business offices, conferences and exhibitions, R&D displays, and high-end commercial residences will be built, according to Lin Jiantang, head of the engineering division.

Preliminary work on primary and middle schools, neighborhood centers, arts and sports parks, and sewage pumping stations will be finished in 2018.

A 2.1-sq-km ecological park is to open in 2018, while a 430,000-sq-m central park is planned for completion by October 2018. Construction of coastal and riverside landscape belts will commence in the beginning of next year and end by December.

Fushan New Town

This is the first time for Fushan New Town to be listed on a par as an initial area for Western Eco-New Town.

The adjustment of its administrative system is a pilot project for Zhuhai to make industrial parks even more efficient, attractive, professional, and market-oriented.

Along those lines, work on a 24.3-km underground comprehensive pipeline will get started in September. It will include 110kv+ and 10kv power cables, water, sewage, communication, and gas conduits.
