China's first big data alliance for colorectal cancer was founded on Aug 6 in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong province.
Launched by Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center and Beijing Yidu Cloud Company, the Big-data Alliance for Colorectal Cancer (BACC) provides high-quality and accurate clinical big data for the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer.
According to Xu Ruihua, head of Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, colorectal cancer is one of the most common forms of malignant tumors in the world with more than 600,000 people dying from it every year.

BACC will work with hospitals to set up a range of standards and regulations and collect, save and integrate clinical information from different information systems in different hospitals. By means of advanced technology, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence, it will offer in-depth processing of information to establish a medical big data database.
BACC aims to improve the diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. It is hoped that by using big data which includes demographic features, symptoms and medicine effects, the best treatment can be found for patients. It is also hoped to be benefitted by the singling out those who are at greater risk of getting colorectal cancer and accelerating the clinical research of new drugs.
