After a successful showing at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing from July 8 to 23, the Guangdong Art Centennial Exhibition has returned home, opening on Aug 5.
In its first weekend being held at the Guangdong Museum of Art, the exhibition which celebrates artwork from the past 100 years, broke all records, attracting 9,000 visitors.
On the opening day, 4,900 people visited the museum, its largest single day figures since its opening in 1997.

As it is the summer holidays, many parents took their children to the exhibition over weekend, including Guangzhou local Luo. "My grandson returned home from America to spend his summer holiday at home and I took him to the exhibition, hoping that he could gain a better understanding of Guangdong's culture and history," Luo said.
More than 500 exhibits are on display across 12 exhibition halls at the museum. Pieces displayed include works such as Drop your whip by Situ Qiao, Legend of the White Snake by Guan Liang and Green Great Wall by Guan Shanyue. Some of the works were collected from other provinces and are on show in Guangzhou for the first time.
Giant photos of 21 of Guangdong best artists hang in the No 1 and No 2 exhibition halls on the first floor – 60 people allowed in at a time. Because of the large numbers, special measures have been taken to ensure that all visitors enjoy themselves at the exhibition.
Despite celebrating the past 100 years in art, the exhibition has been kept up to date with the use of modern technology. A local surnamed Ruan, who took his wife and son to the exhibition said, "Each exhibit has a QR code, and by scanning it with our cell phones, we can know the introduction of the works, which is a great way to popularize arts."
