Five members of the national Thousand Talents Plan, which was initiated by the Chinese government in 2008 to recruit top-level foreign experts from abroad, have signed entrepreneurship agreements with the Penglai government after they visited the coastal city in East China's Shandong province from July 30 to 31.

The Penglai government organized a tour in the city for 25 experts involved in the program to discuss innovation and entrepreneurship. It is the first time that the local government has arranged a talent attraction event attended by so many high-caliber experts.
The experts are professionals in sectors such as biomedicine, new chemical materials, equipment manufacturing and clean energy, which are urgently needed in Penglai.
The event is aimed at establishing a communication platform between major enterprises in Penglai and those experts to assist in recruiting talent support for the city's economic advancement.
During the two-day event, nine experts presented their projects to local enterprises and government organs. They briefed them on the characteristics and development potential of each project, whiles offering possible solutions to difficulties raised by local enterprises.

Penglai is a glamorous city not because it boasts beautiful sceneries, but more importantly, it shows much respect and appreciation of talents, Xie Jiangbing, president of Eyebright Medical Group and a member of the Thousand Talents Program, said at the opening ceremony of the event.
The event is the latest efforts by the city in recent years to attract talents. The coastal city has been giving priority to talent attraction in its economic development.
Since it unveiled a series of talent attraction policies, Penglai has recruited a total of 86 talents since 2016, including academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering and members of the Thousand Talents Plan.
