A bridge world-record 700,000 sq m of asphalt -- equivalent to 98 football fields -- was completed on the span between Zhuhai, Macao and Hong Kong on July 27.

Pavement of the steel deck CB07 section was carried out by Guangdong Provincial Changda Highway Engineering Co Ltd. The CB06 section of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge was completed two days earlier by Chongqing Zhixiang Paving Technology Engineering Co Ltd.

The paved area is nearly seven times that of the Jiaxing-Shaoxing Sea Bridge in Zhejiang Province, the world's longest and widest multi-pylon cable-stayed bridge, with paving area of nearly 100,000 sq m.

The bridge project consists of four major structural layers involving 6.3 million sq m of single-layer cumulative operating area, a project executive reported.

Pavement of the bridge deck atop composite beams was completed on Jan 23, whereas cast asphalt paving for the entire bridge ended on May 27.
