The export value of Nanyang's agricultural products reached 3.15 billion yuan ($466 million) in the first half of the year, according to the Nanyang Food Inspection & Quarantine Bureau on July 17.
Agricultural products now account for a third of the city's total export value, ranking first in Henan province.
Nanyang has long been an agricultural powerhouse which mainly exports baking soda, fresh vegetables, tea, and mushrooms. Mushrooms and associated products yielded 2.52 billion yuan in export value, accounting for 80 percent of all agricultural exports.
The results are promising for Henan province, coming off the back of a recent downturn in exports. Subsequently, Nanyang Food Inspection & Quarantine Bureau rolled out a series of measures to restore export stability.
Earlier this year, a set of regulations were established to improve the quality and security of local agricultural products – the bureau seeking to support featured agricultural products, streamline procedures and cancel inspection fees.
