Guangzhou approves action plan to build aviation hub

The Guangzhou municipal government approved an action plan on July 17 for the construction of the Guangzhou international aviation hub and airport area economic demonstration zone.

According to the plan, nearly 300 billion yuan ($44.3 billion) will be invested in a total of 76 key projects in infrastructure, aeronautical maintenance, aviation logistics from 2017-19.

The action plan also details Guangdong's advantages and challenges in building an international aviation hub and airport economic demonstration zone, basic principles and guiding ideology of the construction as well as a three-year development goal. 

By 2019 passenger and cargo throughput at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport will reach 72 million and 2.3 million tons, respectively. So, the international aviation hub will help to continue the steady development. It will have a driving effect on the industrial upgrading of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

A total of 37 primary tasks were clarified in the action plan, including building an integrative transportation hub, developing high-end industries in the airport area, and providing convenient clearance and improve airport management.
