The Guangzhou Book Center became the first book store in China to offer self-service payment for its customers on July 13.
The new system means that shoppers can just scan and pay for their books in less than a minute by using their phones, instead of queuing at the cashiers' tills.

By scanning a QR code and downloading the mobile app Zhiguanggou, customers can register to use the service at the Guangzhou Book Center.
After paying for the books, buyers will receive a QR code on their phone, with which they can scan and pass through the gate machine at the exit.
