Divisional tryouts for the 2017 VEX Robotics Competition, a world-class championship for teenagers, are to take place at the Airshow Center in Jinwan District from Oct 19 to 22, according to the Zhuhai Exhibition & Convention Group.
Founded in the United States in 2007, the VEX Robotics Competition is one of the most widely covered and authoritative teen-targeted robotics contests with the largest number of participants in the world.
The tournament puts the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills of student teams to the test. They each must design and build a robot to compete in a game-based engineering challenge.
Foshan, Shenzhen and Dongguan in Guangdong Province; Shandong Province capital Jinan ; and Shaanxi Province capital Xi'an had hosted the past seven qualification rounds, pushing challengers to a higher level than ever before.

According to the organizers, this year's entries for the China division are the best they have seen. Competitors will be selected at provincial-level tryouts and vie in promotions with outstanding teams from the US, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, and elsewhere. Those who win qualify for the 11th Asia-Pacific Robotics Championship 2017 to be held in New Zealand later this year.
The qualifying competition is organized by the Zhuhai Exhibition & Convention Group, Zhuhai Airshow Co Ltd, Asian Robotics League, Hengqin Vesibay Robotics Technology Co Ltd, Dongguan BDS Technology Ltd, Macao-Hengqin Youth Entrepreneurship Valley, Beijing Normal University Zhuhai, and Beijing Institute of Technology Zhuhai Campus. The Convention & Expo Bureau and Zhuhai Municipal Education Bureau will guide the event.
A VEX robotics exhibition will be held concurrently with the event to display the most advanced robot products and other high technologies.
