Huanjiang Maonan autonomous county, Hechi in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, has been taking steps to protect its cultural diversity.

A plaque unveiling ceremony for Chinese villages with distinctive ethnic features took place in Chenshuang village, Huanjiang on July 7, with the aim of further promoting its folk cultures and extensive ethnic tourism attractions.

Chenshuang village was added to a list of villages notable for their ethnic cultures in March, after Xianan village in 2014.

The list was released by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People's Republic of China.

In recent years, the Huanjiang government has made efforts to vigorously protect and develop its featured villages, with some remarkable achievements made so far.

Around 10 million yuan ($1.48 million) was spent between 2012 to 2017 on infrastructure, and development of folk cultures and local special industries.

A project to develop a group of villages has recently been launched in Huanjiang, with the aim of creating villages that highlight ethnic features, rich folk cultures, and beautiful environments.
