Lotus Supermarkets offer shopping on the go

Lotus Supermarkets are now offering their customers self-service shopping as of July 12, in a scheme being rolled out across 44 of its outlets in South China.

Instead of having to line up at the cashier to pay, customers can easily scan a QR code for the total of their shopping using an app on their mobile phone called Lotus Go and then pay online.

So far, Lotus Go has accumulated more than 80,000 users and over 20 million transactions have been made via the app since it was rolled out last year.

Despite the introduction of the app, the number of cashier in Lotus supermarkets has remained the same in order to maintain a good quality of customer service.

"The self-service technology aims at improving our customers' shopping experience and making their purchases more efficient," said Weng Haixin, CEO of Lotus Supermarkets. Weng added that the technology will be used in all stores to greatly improve its shopping services.

Parknshop, a Hong Kong-based grocery store is also testing a self-service purchasing system in Guangzhou with the prospect of it being rolled out across all outlets.
