Jiuyuan district in Baotou recently held a traditional “first writing ceremony” for kindergarten graduates, with the aim of promoting traditional culture.
The ceremony is a traditional Chinese rite of passage, after which children progress to mainstream education.
Children wore traditional Han clothing at the ceremony, where they were later handed diplomas.
Under the guidance of teachers, children learned to write the Chinese character ren (person) –– signifying the desire to be a good person.
