The city's enterprise environmental credit situation is generally good, states the 2016 Zhuhai City-Level Enterprise Environmental Credit Assessment, which was issued by the Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau on July 6.
Seventeen local industrial enterprises have been cited for Environmental Protection Integrity (Green), 14 given Environmental Warnings (Yellow), and 10 labeled as Environmental Non-Performing (Red). Green is considered most trustworthy, while Blue (all others in the city) is satisfactory, followed by Yellow and Red on the negative side. Green enterprises will be honored as prioritized suppliers for government procurement.
The Red-Yellow-Blue-Green classifications are based on Measures for the Evaluation of Zhuhai Enterprise Environmental Trustworthiness (for Trial Implementation) that became effective on April 1, 2016.
This is the first time for Zhuhai to conduct and publicize such an assessment for the sake of environmental conservation and the city's sustainability.

A comprehensive evaluation was made in terms of total pollutant discharge, compliance with laws and regulations, fulfilment of social commitments, and number of emergent environmental incidents.
According to a bureau official, this is an important measure. Enterprises are required to continuously improve environmental performance and fulfill their legal obligations and social responsibility. It is also a significant means for environmental protection departments to manage efficiently.
The measures help to protect the environment with encouragement, warnings, and punishment leading to self-monitoring of enterprises and external public supervision, noted the official.
