"I've realized my deficiencies through exchanges with mainland contestants and received devoted guidance from the coaches they have here, so I have volunteered to extend my training in Guangzhou."

"I hope to go for the gold with them (mainland peers)," Xu added.

Xu has defeated his peers in Taiwan through fierce competitions and has become the only candidate for the poly-mechanics and automation.

"Taiwan's participation in the global skills contest has lasted for more than 30 years, and was once the host city of World Skills Competitions in 1993," said Liu Minliang, leader of the expert group for CNC Milling.

Taiwan contestants have advantages in experiences and information while mainland competitors have specialized training and are particularly good with devices. The exchange can be a great supplement for both sides, Liu pointed out.

Song Fangzhi, leader of the expert group for CNC Turning, said that the cross-Strait exchange has facilitated bilateral candidates to improve their skills and directly take the challenge to the global arena.
