2017 China-US Young Maker Competition Visits Shanghai

The 2017 China-US Young Maker Competition came to Shanghai's Zhangjiang area from July 1 to 3.

Participants were required to register in groups limited to a maximum of five members. They were encouraged to focus on areas of sustainable development, including community, education, environmental protection, health, energy and transportation.

A total of 18 teams were selected to enter the final competition on July 3. The selection was made by a panel of experts based on their judgment of participants' works displayed.

Twelve winners were selected in the Shanghai final and bonuses of up to 60,000 yuan ($8,826) will be given to the winners. The top six winners also qualify for the national final to be held in Beijing in August.

The Competition has been held annually since 2014 and yields abundant sci-tech achievements. It has also been included in the list of achievements of the 5thand 6th annual China-US High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange.

This year, the competition, carrying the theme "Co-Making the Future", started in May and was launched to take place in 10 cities across the country.

Hosting such a competition in Shanghai is expected to enhance the exchange of talents, capital and technologies between Zhangjiang and Silicon Valley in the fields of technological innovation and entrepreneurship.

It is also hoped to create a more innovative and successful entrepreneurship environment for young Chinese.

The competition is sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and organized by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange of MOE, Tsinghua University, Intel Corporation, and Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group.
