Zhanjiang Airport announced on July 4 it had surpassed 1 million passengers and 7.8-kilotons of cargo in the first half of this year, a year-on-year increase of 47.7 percent and 37 percent respectively.
The total number of takeoffs and landings has risen 34.5 percent to 11,972.
Zhanjiang Airport continues to set record throughputs benefiting from Guangdong province's strategic plan to promote civil aviation. Constant comprehensive improvements have been made, including enriching its route network, upgraded handling capacity, facility upgrades, and well-round security services.
Zhanjiang Airport is currently operating 25 air routes including three overseas, and is accessible to 29 cities, covering the most of the capital cities in South China.
According to a spokesman for Zhanjiang Airport, this year's passenger throughput is expected to exceed 2 million, with a swarm of travelers predicted to rush during the summer peak period.
In addition, the project plan of relocating the airport in Tangzhui town in Zhanjiang's Wuchuan city is underway. The new international airport will be upgraded from 4C to 4E, the second best ranking in China's five-tier airfield system.
