The exhibition, part of a program to promote Guangzhou culture in Europe, will add more elements of Chinese culture to diplomatic activities during the 2017 G20 Hamburg Summit.

Xu, who currently serves as president of the Guangzhou Sculpture Academy, creates works that have been acclaimed for their humorous verisimilitude and canny portrayals of everyday life in contemporary urban China. He is known for his sculpture series of the "plump female" which express confidence and optimism towards life.

Hamburg will be the 24th place on Xu's sculpture world tour and the artist will showcase his "plump female" works in the city's iconic places.

Xu's work has always been committed to showing off his home city's inclusiveness and development.

Hamburg and Guangzhou are both port cities with long histories and Guangzhou, the birthplace of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, has had close relations with Hamburg for centuries.

Xu's exhibition will not only play an important role in echoing the nation's call for implementing the Belt and Road Initiative, but will also function as a bridge to promote communications among people from the two cities.
