Craig Allen Ruhstorfer, an American foreign teacher also known by his Chinese name Liu Tianxin, recently offered another unpaid blood donation to a local service station in Pingdu county, Qingdao.
Liu worked as a male nurse in Michigan, US, until coming to China to become a teacher in Qingdao 10 years ago.
Since 2003, he began voluntarily donating blood twice a year, and has given up to 28 donations totaling 11,200 milliliter of blood over the past ten years.
Not only is he an unpaid blood donation volunteer, but Liu also funds 22 Chinese children after meeting a child with family difficulties in 2003. He offered his own money for the child to go to school, and has continued to successively fund several children until now.
The eldest child is 25 years old now and takes Liu to his wedding as a member of his beloved family as a sign of gratitude and appreciation.
Liu is comfortably fluent in Chinese and has no barriers to daily communication. He now teaches in Shangqiu Normal University in Henan province, and often takes the train to visit a few of his students in Qingdao during the vacation, donating blood at the same time. Often, he also takes willing students with him to also donate at the blood station.
Liu received the Golden Award for blood donation from 2014 to 2015. "As a foreigner who can insist on donating blood without payment, Liu fully reflects a love without the borders and is really admirable," said Dong Yongguang, a staff member at the Pingdu blood donation service station in Qingdao.
