A quartet made up of college students from Inner Mongolia won coveted prizes at accordion tournaments held in Australia and New Zealand.

The quartet was led and instructed by Zhang Xinhua, deputy chairman of Inner Mongolia Musicians Association, to attend the Australian International Accordion Championships held in Sydney, and the South Pacific International and New Zealand National Accordion Championships in Auckland.

In Auckland, the quartet won the first title during the ensemble music contest. Shen Rongjia from Inner Mongolia Arts University (IMAU) took first place during the solo contest. Niu Zeyuan from Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) won first place for the artist performance.

In Sydney, the quartet won second place at the ensemble competition. Yang Chen from IMNU won third place in the virtuoso entertainment class. Shen took second prize for the solo performance.

The accordion events have provided an international platform for college students to showcase their talent in foreign countries, and have helped promote Inner Mongolia as a center for the arts.
