IMNU founds ethnic economy institute

The China Ethnic Economy Institute was inaugurated at the Inner Mongolia Normal University (IMNU) on June 21. The new institute will conduct theoretical research and cultivate specialized personnel in the minorities sector.

Appointed as the first dean of the institute, Cheng Enfu is the director of the Academic Division of Marxist Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), director of the Research Center of Economic and Social Development and chairman of the World Association of Political Economy.

The institute aims to draw support from CASS’ affiliated institutes and universities including Renmin University of China and Minzu University of China, to take advantage of IMNU’s strengths in ethnic economy, and to establish a think tank to provide advisory and consultation for the autonomous region’s policy making in economic and social areas.

President of IMNU Yun Guohong pointed out that the university has vigorously cooperated with governmental departments and authorized associations to found a series of research institutes, including the IMNU Buddhism Culture Institute, the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology Advanced Studies and the Journalism Training Center of Mongolian and Chinese Translation.

IMNU will create a supportive environment for the ethnic economy institute, and the university encourages researchers to learn from related domestic and international studies and pursue academic progress to contribute to society, Yun added.
