The first Zhuhai-Taiwan container shipping line was launched at Berth 3 of the Zhuhai International Container Terminal (Gaolan) Co Ltd on June 12, bringing convenient new logistics passage for economic exchange and trade between west bank areas of the Pearl River and Taiwan.

The route was opened by Zhuhai Port Holdings Group and China United Lines Ltd, a well-known cross-strait container shipping service provider.

The line to Taiwan will improve the competitiveness and influence of Zhuhai Port, and promote cross-strait integrated economic and social development, claimed a spokesperson.

Using a ship with a load capacity of 599 standard containers, the line will run weekly and pass the ports of Kaohsiung, Taichung, Gaolan, Humen, and Huangpu. Gaolan Port was the first on the route from Taiwan to South China.

Currently, Zhuhai Port Holdings Group has 20 fast barge lines covering main ports and cities in the Xijiang River Basin, and five multi-modal logistics channels along railway routes to Qingyuan and Shaoguan in Guangdong, Hengyang in Hunan, and Yunnan Province. A further 54 container shipping lines to main ports have been opened to coastal areas of China, Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, the South Pacific, Hong Kong, and Macao.

This year, the group has also opened container shipping lines from Gaolan to Qinzhou of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the South Pacific, Quanzhou and Xiamen of Fujian Province, and Haiphong of Vietnam, developing a primary logistics network with Zhuhai Port as the main hub.

Zhuhai Port Holdings Group president Ou Huisheng said the company will launch more lines along the Maritime Silk Road and to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the South Pacific, and South America. They are expected to enrich Zhuhai Port’s logistics network, enhance its international influence, and provide major support for the city’s economic development.
