Zhuhai's old post roads, which have obtained government approval for restoration and exploitation as cultural routes, were inspected by a CPPCC survey panel on June 12. The pathways lead to 11 historic and cultural villages and former residences of 17 historic figures including Dr Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), the founding father of the Republic of China.
The trails run through greenways and urban roads from Cuiheng Village in Zhongshan in the north to Macao, forming what is called a characterized road-waterway cultural route. Dr Sun's former residence is in Cuiheng Village.

Qi'ao Old Post Road, built in 1860, extends via Nanxi, Cuiwei, Qianshan, Gongbei, and other areas to Macao. It has been designated as one of eight trial Southern Guangdong Old Post Roads.
An overall plan of how to develop and utilize Zhuhai's old post road cultural routes -- especially the trail sections -- has been formulated by the Housing & Urban-Rural Planning & Construction Bureau and given government approval.
The bureau also published this year's work program with a notice about strengthening construction work. Signage design, collection of related cultural and historical materials, and other preparatory efforts are under way.
