Harbin’s Pingfang district is bringing city administration into the digital age, with more than 150 high-definition surveillance cameras and nearly 100 facial recognition systems now in service.
In an effort to meet the city’s goal of being a national civilized city, Pingfang district utilizes video, the internet, electronic mapping and microwave communication vehicles in city administration.
The application of high-definition surveillance cameras and facial recognition systems greatly enhances work efficiency in the field of city administration, traffic management and security.
For the convenience of residents, more than 60 services designed to improve the lives of residents are advertised to communities through information systems. Network office platforms are in service to ensure the smooth exchange of data between the district, streets and communities.
To serve increasing numbers of people, mobile phone applications have been developed offering all-round services such as finding bicycles to rent, purchasing medicine, making community service appointments and requesting property repairs.
The online purchase of medicine contributed to over 6,000 transactions in 2016, with a turnover of more than 300,000 yuan ($ 44,100).
