Hengqin Laisun Creative Culture City is one of three major projects under construction in Zhuhai that have been listed on the Guangdong Key Program Library for Promoting Integrated Development of Cultural & Creative, Design & Service With Related Industries. The other two are Gree Electric Appliances Industrial Design Center and the Xiangzhou Pier Cultural Courtyards & Streets project.
The list was released by the Guangdong Development & Reform Commission on June 4. It contains 74 projects divided into industrial parks, bases, public service platforms, and integrated development categories.
Laisun, which came under construction in September 2013 at a cost of 18 billion yuan ($2.66 billion), is included in the industrial park and base category.
Hengqin Laisun Creative Culture City
Gree Electric Appliances Industrial Design Center came under construction in January 2015, with 40 million yuan (5.9 million) out of total 570 million yuan ($84 million) of investment having been utilized.
The upgrade and expansion of the Gree office area is intended to enhance design techniques, satisfy complicated design requirements, and increase the number of design patents. Preparations for equipment procurement bidding are under way and the project is expected to be completed in December.
With total investment of 1.7 billion yuan ($250 million), construction of the Xiangzhou Pier project commenced in October 2015 and has cost 400 million yuan ($59 million). The large-scale theme culture and tourism project in the Hengqin Pilot Free Trade Zone combines convention and exhibition, leisure, tourism, shopping, and catering facilities, with the first phase to be completed by year-end. It is also designated as a cultural and creative industrial key project in the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) for Modern Service Development of Guangdong Province.

The list was updated after comprehensive consideration of newly added projects and the implementation of preliminary projects depending on requirements of related action plans.
