The Ningbo government has started work on a new master plan for the city's development over the next 30 years, according the Ningbo Planning Bureau.
The plan is expected to map out the city in Zhejiang province's urban development up to 2049, and its suggested measures could have a deep impact on residents' daily lives as well as businesses.
The plan will focus on improving the city's economic competitiveness, but also its sustainability and "cultural charm", according to the bureau.
More wide-ranging than most development plans, Ningbo's 2049 strategy will aim to coordinate the city's economic, political, spiritual and ecological development over the coming decades.
This approach is intended to make the city more competitive and innovative, but also more civilized, the bureau claims.
Ultimately, Ningbo hopes to become an internationally known port city and join the ranks of China's "first-tier cities" such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2017 after experts look into and discuss the different sectors of Ningbo's economy.
