Zhuhai Port Group joined hands with the world's third-largest container company, France's CMA CGM, on May 27, launching a new shipping route to Haiphong in Vietnam.
When the first vessel moored at the Gaolan Port International Container Terminal, it marked the opening of the second international route by Zhuhai Port Group in the past three months, following the Gaolan-South Pacific (SPS) line in March.
The new route is expected to make it easier for shipping between Zhuhai and Southeast Asian countries. More importantly, it also marks the city's achievements in becoming a strategic maritime hub on the Belt & Road, announced a spokesperson.
CMA CGM is France's largest container transport and shipping company, operating over 400 vessels and serving 200 ports across the globe.

The route will facilitate the weekly transport of 1,100 TEUs between Zhuhai and Haiphong, calling at Zhanjiang, Hong Kong, and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province.
Zhuhai Port Group has opened 63 shipping routes including 27 international lines (encompassing nine inland feeder services), providing cargo transport to Japan, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, the South Pacific, Hong Kong, and Macao.
As the second line to connect Zhuhai and Vietnam, it offers additional convenience for importers and exporters from the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary, Xijiang River Basin, and Southwest China.
