Guangzhou's first electrified trolley bus line was put into service on May 28 capable of running on an overhead wire network or using its own rechargeable electric batteries.
Line 108 will also be the first route in the city to have its own app which is able to provide passengers with up to the minute information on bus timetables, departure and arrival times, and even suggested routes and transfers.
"Passengers can get bus information and news from the online system if they scan the QR code or shake their bluetooth-enabled phones when they are on the trolleybus," said an official from the Guangzhou bus company.
The app can be used in nine languages at present, giving visitors to the Guangdong capital more convenient access to public transport. There are also facilities aimed at providing better access for passengers with disabilities.
A total of 38 smart trolleybuses are now in service, travelling to various scenic spots around the city, such as Martyrs' Cemetery, Yuexiu Park and Sanyuanli.
