A hospital in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, has introduced an intelligent nursing system to improve its medical service, Guangzhou Daily reported on May 24.

The system, the first of its kind in the province, is capable of tracking intravenous (IV) infusions, collecting medical data and patient information, according to Pan Xuan, president of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University.

The process allows nurses to collect patient information across wards with greater efficiency as well as iron out any human errors which may occur. An official from the hospital said that each nurse now saves from four to six hours of repetitive administration thanks to the system.

In order to track patients and their medical progress, their details can be accessed via a QR-code-embedded wristband, as well as using sensors fitted to IV bags to detect and inform nurses when they need changing.

"We don't have to go after the nurses to replenish the infusion anymore," said Ms Zhang, a patient at the hospital. "What's more, it's much quieter outside."
