The Zhuhai city government signed a memorandum of cooperation on May 24 with a visiting delegation from Philadelphia on furthering exchange and partnership in culture, economy, and other spheres.
The delegation was headed by Lauren Swartz, director of International Business Investments for the City of Philadelphia under the Department of Commerce.
Vice mayor Yan Wu spoke about Zhuhai's innovation-driven development and Opening Up strategies and of plans for industrial, transportation, and urban upgrades.
With rapid development of the Guangdong Pilot Free Trade Zone Hengqin and accelerated construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Great Bay Area, Zhuhai is endeavoring to shape a hub city on the west bank of the Pearl River based on new development concepts, Yan explained. He said Philadelphia colleges, universities, and enterprises could come to seek opportunities in Zhuhai.

Philadelphia and Zhuhai share many similarities in status, population size, and industrial structure, said Lauren. She added that her city wants a strategic partnership with Zhuhai, and to work together in biomedicine and life sciences.
The American guests also toured Gree Electric Appliances and Jafron Biomedical.
With a population of 1.5 million, the "City of Brotherly Love" is Pennsylvania's largest city and the fifth largest in America. It is located on the Delaware River and is a major port city within the sphere of the Metropolitan New York region.
