Jinan University launches UK joint education program

A joint education program between Guangzhou's Jinan University and the University of Birmingham in the UK will be launched in September to educate young talent in artificial intelligence (AI) and big data.

Located on the Jinan University campus in Guangzhou’s Panyu district, the joint institute will enroll 120 students for programs in applied mathematics and economics, statistics, computing and pure mathematics, said Hu Jun, president of Jinan University.

All of the courses will be taught in English, and courses offered by professors from the University of Birmingham will account for at least half of the total program credits, in which students will receive qualifications from both universities.

Students at the institute will be registered with both universities and have access to online programs at the University of Birmingham through the blackboard platform.

During the four year program, students will have the opportunity to study abroad at renowned universities in the UK and the United States, including the University of Birmingham.

The annual tuition fee for the program is about 70,000 yuan ($1,015.99), with scholarships from both Jinan University and the joint institute available.
