Over 4,000 forest firefighters and six aircraft were sent to battle fires ignited at Naji forest in Chen Barag Banner at 12 am on May 17. Around 25-kilometer-long burning birch woodlands have been extinguished by 6 pm on May 18.
Dry vegetation, persistent overheating air, and strong winds made the firefighting task difficulty, resulting in thousands of hectares of woods burned.
China National Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters has launched a third-level emergency response to timely monitor the fire situation via satellite.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
