Guangzhou carmaker hits 1 million car landmark

The one-millionth vehicle produced by GAC Motor rolled off the line in Guangzhou on May 15.

GAC Motor, a subsidiary of Guangzhou Automobile Group, a Guangzhou-based automobile manufacturer, celebrated the record by holding a ceremony and announcing its intention to produce and sell one million cars annually in the next three years.

"It's a milestone," said Yu Jun, general manager of GAC Motor. "Last year, we broke the record of 60,000 cars in June, and in less than a year, we see the one-millionth vehicle roll off the production line."

The carmaker has achieved dramatic market growth since it was founded in 2008, manufacturing one million cars in just six and a half years.

In recent years, GAC Motor has been building up its research and development, technology and production, as well as building its brand. The company turned to developing cars of high quality, design and innovation, aiming to expand into the overseas market.

According to the company, sales of the GS8, its flagship high-end model, surpassed 10,000 vehicles in March and April, making it one of the fastest-growing SUV models in the Chinese market.
