Construction on the commercial street near the Pingtan Aoqian Roll-on/Roll-off Passenger Wharf, where high-speed ferries offering shuttle services between Pingtan and Taiwan arrive and depart each day, shall begin in June and is scheduled to be completed within three months.
Covering an area of over 26,000 square meters, the street will contain 10 wooden cabins integrating features from the distinctive stone houses common in Pingtan, a parking lot and other supporting facilities.
Only a mile away from the Aoqian Wharf, the street will target ferry passengers as its major source of customers, said Weng Fushun, construction manager of Jiayuan Development Co, which is undertaking the project.
"People can enjoy the enchanting seaside views while patronizing the shops or stores on the street," Weng continued. "We hope all the tourists passing by will be given a good impression of Pingtan by the street."
