Guangzhou hosted a roadshow to promote the 2017 Fortune Global Forum in Singapore on April 27, giving the city the chance to attract some of the world’s largest enterprises to attend the high-profile business event, which will be held in Guangzhou in December.
More than 250 people including representatives from governments, enterprises and associations in both Guangdong and Singapore attended the roadshow, promoting further cooperation between the two sides.
Two letters of intent were signed between Chinese and Singaporean organizations during the event, outlining future cooperation on technology and intellectual property rights.
The deals were signed between the Sino-Singapore International Joint Research Institute and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Holdings Co, and between Guangzhou Gas Group, Guangzhou Port Group and resources conglomerate Royal Golden Eagle.
Guangzhou vice mayor Cai Chaolin joined the roadshow and delivered a keynote speech, introducing Guangzhou’s investment environment to the attendees.
According to Cai, since the first Fortune Global Forum held in Singapore in 1995, the forum has become a platform for gathering the world’s top talent and promoting the development of free trade.
In recent years, Guangzhou has seen a steady growth in attracting foreign investment and cooperation between Singapore and Guangzhou has been strengthened. As of the end of 2016, there were a total of 552 Singapore-invested enterprises in Guangzhou.
To develop a more business-friendly environment, Guangzhou has reduced administrative fees, set up government funds, and implemented policies to lower insurance rates, and the city continues to provide incentives for foreign corporations.
