The construction of the first phase of a research institute for robots and intelligent manufacturing has stepped up construction work, Xinhua reported on April 25.
The research institute, which is affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, will mainly conduct State-level research tasks on robotic and intelligent manufacturing technologies, as well as provide technical support for transformation and upgrading of Shenyang’s robotics and intelligent manufacturing industries when it commences operations.
Establishing a research institute is in line with Liaoning province’s industrial development strategy –– making efforts to push forward robotic and intelligent manufacturing industries as the new driving force of Liaoning’s economy. Under such conditions, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liaoning province and Shenyang signed an agreement to build a branch of the academy in Liaoning province’s capital city, Shenyang, during September 2015.
The Shenyang-based research institute will serve as a platform integrating scientific research, engineering applications and public services with around 1,000 top researchers based there, according to Yu Haibin, head of the Shenyang Institute of Automation attached to Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Located in the Hunnan district of Shenyang city, the research institute occupies an area of 39.7 hectares. It is estimated that total investment in the research institute is around 270 million yuan ($39.20 million). The research institute began construction work in July 2016, and it will open in 2018.
