An Inner Mongolia-Australia technology transfer center was established in Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on March 29, aimed at spurring innovation and boosting economic growth in the region, reports Baotou Daily.

The center, co-developed by Baotou and Monash University from Australia and with links to 12 Australian universities and more than 40 businesses, is the first technology transfer center in the autonomous region co-established by the local government and a foreign scientific research institution.

Following the setting up of the center, Baotou and Monash University will build an international high-tech industrialization platform to absorb and commercialize the latest technological advances.

The move shows Baotou’s growing emphasis on the integration of research and production, and will provide impetus to the city’s innovation drive.

Established in Melbourne, Australia, in 1958, Monash University has established an international reputation for research and teaching excellence and is ranked in the top 1 percent of world universities. The university has set up 75 research centers and partnered with 120 research centers globally. It has accumulated a wealth of experience in areas such as stem cell research, nanotechnology and the biology of reproduction.
