Beijing and Shenyang to deepen economic cooperation

Shenyang, capital city of Liaoning province, and Beijing, jointly held a cooperation forum in Beijing on April 18, where the two sides exchanged views on deepening cooperation to rejuvenate Shenyang’s economy.

The forum is in line with China’s strategy to revive Northeast China. Recent years have seen the central government paying greater attention to the revival of the old industrial base and it implemented a new strategy in 2003 to revitalize Northeast China. The central government also issued the 13th Five-Year Plan for Northeast China Revitalization in 2016, and vowed to revive the real economy and cultivate new drivers of economic growth in the region.

Zhou Jianping, the head of the department in charge of Northeast China Revitalization, introduced the progress and future planning for Beijing-Shenyang cooperation at the forum. He pointed out that the two sides attached great importance to cooperation, and expressed his hopes that the partnership would set a good example to other cities in Northeast China.

Beijing and Shenyang have also reached a consensus on improving coordination on major issues at the forum, in order to better serve economic cooperation and development.
