Baotou’s total foreign trade volume reached 2.3 billion yuan ($333 million) during the first two months of the year, representing an increase of 148.33 percent year-on-year, ranking third among cities in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and accounting for 16.36 percent of the region’s total trade volume, figures from the local customs authority show.
The total value of exports reached 1.721 billion yuan, an increase of 163.38 percent and was accounted for mainly by steel, machinery, electronic and high-tech products, among which exports of mechanical and electrical products rose 501.01 percent to 487 million yuan.
The total value of imports reached 587 million yuan, increasing by 112.68 percent, and was made up mostly of resources, machinery and electronic products, which accounted for 97.11 percent of the total volume of imports.
