Seven mini "Water Cubes" are under construction on Mount Tai. The glittering and translucent blue tanks, distributed uniformly around the mountain's summits, are expected to become another of Mount Tai's attractions.

According to the mountain's management committee, the tanks, with a total storage capacity exceeding 10,000 cubic meters, are being built to hold water brought up from a nearby reservoir to address drinking water shortages on the mountain top, and more importantly, to provide water for potential forest and ancient building fires.

"The tanks are welded together by hundreds of food-grade stainless steel tubes, which will help to prolong their service life and prevent secondary contamination of stored water," said one on-site worker.

Xue Chengjun, vice president of the contractor, Jinan Yinhe Supply Drainage Equipment Co, said that the first tank, one of the smallest of the seven tanks at a capacity of 1,100 cubic meters, would be completed within two days.

Xue added that most of the water storage would be used for fire protection and remaining reserves would serve as daily drinking water for tourists and tourism staff on the mountain.

The seven water tanks will be completed in May and are expected to be put into service before the end of the year.
