In 2016, overseas direct investment (excluding banking, securities and insurance) by Chinese investors was 1.13 trillion yuan, or $170.1 billion, up by 44.1 percent over the previous year.

Chinese investors directly invested $14.5 billion in countries along the Belt and Road.

In 2016, the accomplished business revenue through contracted overseas engineering projects was 1.06 trillion yuan, or $159.4 billion, up by 3.5 percent.

The accomplished business revenue from countries along the Belt and Road was $76.0 billion, an increase of 9.7 percent, accounting for 47.7 percent of the accomplished business revenue through contracted overseas engineering projects.

The number of workers sent abroad through overseas labor contracts was 490 thousand, a decline of 6.8 percent.
