Huizhou Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council in May 1993. It administers three sub-district offices in Aotou, Xiqu and Xiayong. It has a land area of 293 square kilometers (accounting for 2.58 percent of Huizhou city), a sea area (including islands) of 1,319 square kilometers (29.19 percent), a coastline of 63.1 kilometers (22.42 percent), and a permanent resident population of 20.58 million(4.33 percent).
From January to March 2016, it has realized the gross domestic production (GDP) of 9.98 billion yuan ($1.45 billion), an increase of 4.1 percent year-on-year; the added value of industries above the designated scale of 7.72 billion yuan, an increase of 3.1 percent.
