Wangxian Tower, or Tower of Immortals, was first built in Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It was regarded as the place where the immortals of Mount Tai gathered to discuss various matters and study sutras. The tower is an arch over the gateway. There are 128 deities worshipped in the shrine on top of the tower. At the back part of the building is the inscription "Place to Gratitude". It was said that in the past when the pilgrims came back safely after their climbing they would kowtowed to express their thanks for the blessing of Goddess Bixia. Another legend said that it was the place for the local officials to express their gratitude to the emperor who came to climb the mountain.
