The Hedi Silver Lake Tourist Resort

The Hedi Silver Lake Tourist Resort is a national AAA tourist area, also known as the Hedi Reservoir. Located in the north of the Leizhou Peninsula, it has a surface area of 122.6 square kilometers, with hundreds of small islets and islands.

The Hedi Reservoir is located in the Hechun township, 14 kilometers northeastward from the county of Lianjiang. The reservoir spans across the Luchuan county and Bobai county in Guangxi as well. Located in the middle reaches of the Jiuzhoujiang River, it has a drainage area of 1,440 square kilometers and a storage capacity of 1.151 billion cubic meters. This reservoir is mainly used for the purposes of irrigation, flood control, power generation and merchant shipping. The designed irrigation area totals 2 million mu (133,333 hectares) and the effective irrigation area is 1.27 million mu (84,667 hectares).

Spanning across Guangdong and Guangxi, it was first built in the late 1950s for the sake of relieving the chronic drought in the Leizhou Peninsula. At that time, more than 300,000 people were recruited to take part in the undertaking. They worked strenuously together with hoes and poles for more than one year before the reservoir was completed.

It is one of the large comprehensive water conservancy projects in China. With a surface area of 122.6 square kilometers and a storage capacity of 1.15 billion cubic meters, it is the second largest reservoir in Guangdong Province and also the national training base of water skiing and boat racing.

The Hedi Silver Lake is not only a resort with clear water and beautiful scenery, but also a site where a water conservancy project, a huge dam and an irrigation project were constructed. People can appreciate the spectacular flow and release of water. There are also shady paths and beautifully designed gardens around the Huxin Pavilion as well as plenty of rushing streams, which make it an ideal destination for leisure and recreation.
