Tongrentang (TRT)(北京同仁堂) was founded in 1669 and started to provide medicine for the royalty in 1723. With a history of over 300 years, its products are reputed both at home and abroad for, "designed formulas, meticulously selected medicinal herbs, top quality professionalism and highly effective treatment." It is sold in over 40 countries and regions.
As China's first world-recognized brand, Tongrentang has registered at the Madrid Triple Entente and Paris Convention Country and is under the protection of international organizations. It has also registered in over 50 countries and regions.
Currently, Tongrentang has two listed companies, one in China and another abroad. It has over 600 chain stores, branch stores, stores in shopping centers, and 20 overseas joint ventures spread in 21 countries and regions. Its products are sold in more than 40 countries and regions.
The company has established five production bases in Beijing's Daxing, Yizhuang, Liujiayao, Tongzhou and Changping districts, and has 41 production lines, producing over 1,000 kinds of products in 26 formulations. All the production lines have passed China's GMP certification and 10 have passed Australian TGA certification.
In 2004, it invested 150 million yuan ($23.66 million) to establish an overseas production base, Tongrentang Chinese Medicine Co Ltd. In late 2005, the company passed GMP certification that laid a solid foundation for the internationalization of production, R&D and marketing.
Currently, Tongrentang engages mainly in three fields: modern pharmaceutical industry, medicine retail business, and medical services. Tongrentang aims to build itself into a globally well-known Chinese medicine group that focuses on modern Chinese medicine.
